February Quiz Night Success

Following another successful evening at Hill Top, Akira was able to produce a profit of over €600 in a packed and competitive Quiz Night.

With 19 teams and nearly 90 players (well more than the last two months combined), this was a major improvement and reflects perhaps the return of many ex-pats from their Christmas breaks. Although the season stopped us from using the outside areas of Hill Top, we were still able to accommodate everybody within the main two sections of the bar areas, and Hill Top’s service proved more than equal to the occasion.

In the previous four Quiz Nights, intense rivals Calpinos and Quizzical Jerks have each ‘podiumed’ three times, but only one win between them when Calpinos won last September. Tonight, Quizzical Jerks earned bragging rights, but they still had to concede to the winners on the night, Los Lobos. The least points went to the supergroup three Degrees. When will we see them again?

After the contest, Derek gave a brief talk prepared by Christina Rene on the progress of the ‘Angels’ initiative, developing the facilities at Akira.

As always, thanks are due to Derek and particularly Barbara, whose task had more than doubled by the influx of players. Costa Blanca Quiz Masters Gary and his team at Hill Top Sports Bar & Grill performed miracles in ensuring that everybody was appropriately fed and watered (or otherwise).
